   Climate Change Bill Committee

CC CommitteePlymouth Sutton MP Linda Gilroy has been appointed to a committee that will scrutinise the Government’s flagship Climate Change Bill.

The Climate Change Bill will make the UK the first country in the world to have a comprehensive legally binding, long term framework to cut CO2 emissions and adapt to climate change.

The Public Bill committee – which consists of MPs from all parties roughly in proportion to the overall number of seats each party has in the Commons – will examine the detail of the Bill and will consider amendments.

Linda Gilroy said: “I’m particularly pleased to serve on this Committee. Although climate change is obviously a global issue with implications for every single person on the planet, I think this Bill also has particular relevance to Plymouth and the South West”.

“Marine scientists from the City are already investigating the effect of climate change on the oceans and we already have a number of renewable energy projects in our region, such as the Cornish Wave Hub and the proposed Severn Barrage”.

Linda Gilroy added “Above all, I know that the environment is an issue that really concerns my constituents. I probably receive more letters and emails on this subject than anything else”.

Linda is already a member of three other committees: the Defence Select Committee, the Committee on Strategic Arms Exports and the Draft Marine Bill Joint Committee.
