Linda Gilroy has welcomed a decision which will see a drug vital to the treatment of asbestos-related cancer available to all through the National Health Service.
The National Institute for Health & Clinical Excellence (NICE) has at long last completed an approval process for the drug Almita which, although not a cure, can
nonetheless increase both the length and the quality of life for those suffering from mesothelioma.
Primary Care Trusts will now be obliged to provide the drug to those for whom it is suitable.
Linda said "Plymouth has one of the highest rates of asbestos related illnesses in the country. I am sure this decision will be welcomed by all those affected by this terrible
disease".
