Linda Gilroy, Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton, today took over as Chair of the Transport & General Workers’ Union Parliamentary Labour
Group, which consists of some ninety members of the House of Commons and the Lords.
She was elected at the Group’s Annual General Meeting.
The Transport and General Workers Union (T&G) was formed in 1922. Earlier this year, its members voted to amalgamate with Amicus to form ‘Unite -The
Union’. With some 1.9 million members, Unite is now the largest trade union in Britain and Ireland.
Linda Gilroy MP said “Our relationship with the Trade Union movement has always been one of the defining features of the Labour Party. I am honoured and
excited to have been given the opportunity to strengthen and further this relationship, so together we can work to represent the interests of hardworking people”.
