Plymouth sutton MP Linda Gilroy has been learning about some of the benefits that the 2012 Olympics will bring to Plymouth and the South
West.
She met with representatives from the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) together with Giles Long, an elite
athlete and Paralympics Champion who has represented Great Britain at the highest level in the world of swimming.
here are a number of ways in which people living in Plymouth can be involved in the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games:
-
Signing up as a Games time volunteer.
-
Participating at the South West’s venue for sailing at Weymouth and Portland.
-
Winning business contracts.
-
Playing a part in the Cultural Olympiad.
-
Getting involved in the London 2012 Education Programme.
-
Celebrating the handover from Beijing.
Earlier this week it emerged that a number of locations in Plymouth have been selected as possible training centres for Olympic athletes.
Linda Gilroy said ”It is very exciting to see how plans for the Olympics are gathering pace. This will be a wonderful event for the whole country, not just
