Plymouth Sutton MP Linda Gilroy today met with Yvette Cooper, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, to discuss Plymouth’s economic development.
She was accompanied by Plymouth Devonport MP Alison Seabeck.
Matters discussed included the City’s future as a growth point, the establishment of the City Development Company and the continuing importance of the Dockyard
and Naval Base to Plymouth’s overall economic wellbeing.
The meeting also provided a chance to convey to the Treasury Plymouth’s hopes of becoming home to the proposed Marine Management
Organisation.
Linda Gilroy said “I hope to engage the Minister’s interest at this crucial time in the City's development and to seek her advice about what we may need to do at
national government level to gain the appropriate support for our ambitions”
This is the latest step in engaging the Government fully with the City’s plans for the future. Last
October, Linda Gilroy met with the Prime Minister Gordon Brown and she has also held numerous meetings with other Government departments.
