Efford “Local Hero”, Sam Andrews, was presented with The Contribution to the Community Award by Plymouth Sutton MP, Linda Gilroy, at The Council House this Friday, 29th July 2005.
The Contribution to the Community Award is a project created by The Experience Corps and is presented to senior volunteers in recognition and in celebration of their outstanding contribution to
their community.
Sam Andrews was nominated by Linda Gilroy for the outstanding volunteer work he has done and continues to do for his local community of Efford, and particularly for the work he does for Efford’s
senior citizens and the Efford Senior Forum.
Sam could have received his award at the national Year of the Volunteer 2005 Tea Party on the House of Commons Terrace in June, but he elected to receive his award in his home city of Plymouth from
his Member of Parliament, Linda Gilroy. Sam will be joined at the award ceremony by his wife, Flora, and several members of his close family and Local Ward Cllr, Brian Vincent.
Linda said:-
“It is an honour and a pleasure to be presenting The Contribution to the Community Award to “Local Hero”, Sam Andrews. I have known Sam for many years and know that he does so much good work for
his local community of Efford. He continues to run The Efford Senior Forum and Efford Senior Fayre, and works so hard arranging outings and trips for Efford Senior Citizens. He is always at hand to
offer help, advice and practical assistance to local people whenever and whenever he can. It is therefore a fitting tribute that Sam receives this richly deserved local community award on Friday.”
