Women in Plymouth Sutton have been encouraged by local Member of Parliament Linda Gilroy MP to enter the prestigious BlackBerry® Women & Technology Awards 2008.
The Awards celebrate the achievements of women using technology, both within and beyond the IT sector, bringing their outstanding contributions into the public
eye.
The Awards look to honour the individual (or company) that has achieved success in their field through innovation, management and return on investment via
technology.
They awards are open to organisations of all sizes and to women from all walks of life.
There are eight categories which recognise the private and public sectors, academia, media and SMEs. There
will be two new categories focusing on the under 30s, and the best female mentor. The awards will also recognize organizations most committed to advancing female talent.
Commenting on the awards, Linda said: “These awards offer women of all backgrounds the opportunity to showcase their work on the national stage. Plymouth
is one of the UK’s leading science cities, we have lots of women working in marine and medical research but there are also plenty of women working in small businesses and the public sector who I am
sure would be able to submit a very good application. I would therefore encourage all local women to enter these
awards – it would be fantastic to see a winner from Plymouth”
